Bisphenol A (BPA) is a common ingredient in many epoxy resins and polycarbonate plastics. It is is suspected as one of the endocrine disrupting chemicals. Plastics containing BPA are used in food containers, bottles, and linings for food and beverage cans. A 2010 report from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) described the potential harmful effects of BPA, a suspected endocrine disruptor, to fetuses, infants, and young children. The European Union, Canada, and the United States have banned the use of BPA in infant feeding bottles.
This kit is a solid-phase competitive ELISA using two antibodies; one is precoated on the ELISA plate. The other (anti-BPA antiserum) detects the target BPA, which competes with HRP-conjugated BPA. This assay kit can be used to measure BPA in serum or plasma.
