Albumin is an approximately 66 kDa protein that is present in blood at very high concentrations. In addition to maintaining blood's osmotic pressure, albumin is also known to play a role in transporting fatty acids and a variety of other substances upon binding with them. Serum albumin levels also serve as an indicator of liver health and function since these proteins are hepatically synthesized. Furthermore, because albumin is renally excreted, measuring albumin level in the kidney has the potential of being an early diagnostic marker for diabetic nephropathy. In fact, certain research studies have affirmed that albumin levels in urine are slightly increased (i.e., microalbuminuria) prior to the generalized protein increase (i.e., proteinuria) evidenced during this condition.
Takara's Human Albumin ELISA Kit is a colorimetric sandwich ELISA designed to quantitatively measure human serum albumin levels. The human albumin ELISA kit can be used as a tool to quickly and easily measure serum albumin levels in human serum and other bodily fluids.
