In 1993, Takara built a state-of-the-art R & D and manufacturing facility in Dalian, China. This site manufactures products for both Takara Bio and Clontech Laboratories, and now stands at 431,000 sq. feet, and has over 400 employees. The facility contains Bio Safety Level II clean rooms and employs a quality management system based on international standards.

The Dalian site is equipped with five 50L fermenters which allow for large scale production. The plant manufactures over 1,000,000 units of product per year.
