Xfect™ Transfection Reagent
An Innovative Transfection Reagent
Are you looking for a highly efficient transfection reagent that doesn't kill your cells? After a screen of more than 2,300 polymers, we bring you Xfect, the first in a new generation of novel transfection reagents from Clontech. When Xfect is combined with plasmid DNA, it creates biodegradable nanoparticles that provide superior transfection results in a wide variety of mammalian cell types, without the high cytotoxicity of competing transfection reagents.
High Efficiency & Low Toxicity
Effective, nontoxic DNA transfer is a vital first step in studies of gene expression and function. Because Xfect allows you to apply higher amounts of the DNA+Reagent complex without killing the cells, it results in greater numbers of transfected and viable cells than the most popular competitor reagent (Figure 1).
Excellent for Most Cell Types, Even Difficult-to-Transfect Cells
Xfect transfects the following 5 most commonly transfected cell lines with very high efficiency:
- 293T 97% efficiency
- HEK-293 93% efficiency
- HeLa 85% efficiency
- NIH/3T3 82% efficiency
- CHO 83% efficiency
Our customers have indicated via survey that they have successfully used Xfect to transfect a wide variety of cells and cell lines (Table I).

A Simple Protocol
For ease of use, transfections can be carried out entirely in the presence of serum. The Xfect protocol requires few steps and minimal optimization (Figure 2).
Share Without Worry - Convenient 2-pack Format
Xfect is packaged in convenient, separable kits, so if you purchase the 100 reaction kit you can share with your less-than-careful colleagues without fear. Simply give them half of the kit and hide yours!
Figure 1. Xfect transfection yields higher numbers of transfected, viable cells than a popular competitor reagent. Xfect and Product L were each used according to their respective protocols to transfect HeLa cells with increasing amounts of plasmid DNA encoding the Living Colors® fluorescent protein, AcGFP1. 48 hr posttransfection, AcGFP1 expression was assessed by flow cytometry in order to determine transfection efficiency and cell viability was assessed by trypan dye exclusion assay.
Figure 2. The simple Xfect transfection protocol is completely serum-compatible.
