Orange Fluorescent Protein Vectors

Living Colors mOrange and mOrange2 are extremely bright orange fluorescent protein monomers which can be used as molecular tags or as reporters to visualize, track, and quantify cellular processes including protein synthesis and turnover, protein translocation, gene induction, and cell lineage. Like all of our fluorescent proteins, mOrange and mOrange2 are ideal for monitoring gene expression and protein localization in vivo, in situ, and in realtime (1–4).

Both mOrange and mOrange2 fluorescent proteins are mutants derived from mRFP1, a monomeric mutant of DsRed, which was developed in Dr. Roger Tsien’s lab (5–7) by directed mutagenesis (8). mOrange2 was modified for improved stability (9). mOrange and mOrange2 have demonstrated stable expression, perform successfully in numerous fusion applications, and are already well characterized and recognized in the literature.
