Human Stem Cell Markers

Induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells are typically derived by introduction of specific pluripotency-associated factors into somatic cells. For example, ectopic expression of Oct4, Sox2, Lin28, and Nanog in human somatic cells is sufficient to induce pluripotency (Yu et al., 2007). Nanog, Sox2, and Oct4 are transcription factors that are expressed in embryonic stem (ES) cells and are essential for maintaining pluripotency. Lin28 is a microRNA-binding protein that is highly expressed in human ES cells and is thought to regulate self-renewal.

Monoclonal Antibodies to Detect Human Stem Cell Markers
This series of monoclonal antibodies recognize the human stem cell markers Oct4, Lin28, and Sox2. These antibodies can be used to characterize expression of these factors by Western blot or immunocytochemistry.
