PrimeSTAR GXL SP DNA Polymerase is a registered general purpose reagent (GPR) appropriate for use in general laboratory applications, including molecular diagnostic development and testing. PrimeSTAR GXL SP is a high-fidelity, robust, hot-start enzyme for use in PCR applications. It provides efficient PCR amplification even in challenging situations, such as when working with GC-rich templates, when excess template is present in the reaction, and when amplifying long products up to 30 kb. The polymerase in all PrimeSTAR GXL products is a modified version of the PrimeSTAR HS enzyme that includes an elongation factor, thus enabling unsurpassed processivity. As the most robust high-fidelity polymerase available, PrimeSTAR GXL DNA Polymerase routinely allows amplification of PCR products that cannot be amplified by other enzymes. This polymerase saves time by minimizing optimization efforts and amplifying targets regardless of PCR conditions, and its antibody-mediated hot-start formulation enhances PCR specificity and sensitivity.

The strong processivity of this enzyme supports even coverage in next-generation sequencing (NGS). Robust amplification brings high performance to NGS experiments, especially when working with GC-rich targets and FFPE samples. These qualities, along with high specificity in library prep, lead to success in challenging NGS applications like long-range PCR in targeted resequencing.

This enzyme also displays outstanding performance in reactions containing excessive nucleic acids. Extraneous DNA ordinarily inhibits amplification by conventional polymerases because the amount of effective polymerase is limited by nonspecific binding. Thanks to the superior processivity of PrimeSTAR GXL DNA Polymerase, inhibition by excessive nucleic acids is limited, resulting in a much higher PCR success rate.

PrimeSTAR GXL SP contains the same polymerase as our standard PrimeSTAR GXL products, but with a modified, license-free buffer formulation. This SP product performs similarly to standard PrimeSTAR GXL DNA Polymerase in all tested customer applications.
